I am a dedicated secondary school mathematics educator with over 35 years of experience in both the state and independent sectors. Throughout my career, I have been passionate about making maths accessible, engaging, and enjoyable for all students, fostering a love for problem-solving and logical reasoning.

For the past 23 years, I was Head of Mathematics at a Southwest London independent school, where I worked to develop a superbly strong department and support students in achieving excellent results. The school has been the highest-achieving maths A-level school in the country for the past two years, reflecting the dedication of both staI and students.

Now, I am taking on the exciting challenge of establishing a new mathematics department at Wetherby Pembridge. My focus is on creating a strong and dynamic programme by designing an eIective curriculum, implementing best practices, and fostering a culture of high achievement and enthusiasm for mathematics.

I firmly believe in the power of mathematics to shape futures, and I am committed to championing high-quality education. By combining expertise, experience, and a collaborative approach, I aim to equip students with the mathematical skills and confidence they need to succeed in an ever-evolving world

My name is Carla Graves and I have been leading drama departments for over 18 years. After training at Queens’ College Cambridge, I gained a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership and Management from Roehampton University.

I have worked at many schools, including Dulwich College Shanghai, St. James’ School for Boys and Emanuel School, where we won Independent School of the year for Performing Art’s in 2022.

I have directed numerous productions, ranging from musicals to Shakespeare, to original immersive shows. Last year, my production of ‘Beauty and the Beast’ was asked to perform at the National School Theatre Awards, where we won the award for Best Solo.

Whilst working at Dulwich College Shanghai I worked alongside the Royal Shakespeare Company to develop a theatre festival where schools around Asia joined together to participate in workshops and share their performances of Shakespeare’s plays.

I am looking forward to working with the students at Wetherby Pembridge to create exciting and innovative performances.

I graduated from the University of Sussex with a first class Masters degree in Chemistry before undertaking a PhD in Chemical Engineering at the University of Cambridge where I looked at the role of MRI within the catalysis industry.

I have been a teacher for 11 years working at Brighton College and Roedean and undertaken a number of roles including Head of Science, Housemaster, CCF Contingent Commander, Director of Higher Education whilst coaching rugby and cricket.

Science is critical to our understanding of the world around us and has the amazing ability to explain everything that has gone before. I am excited to challenge and stretch our new pupils through exciting hands-on lessons to enable them to understand the world they live in. Science is also a set of subjects that will lead us into the future and I hope to inspire the next generation of scientists in our amazing laboratories who will go on in the future to discover things we haven't even thought of yet.

Mrs Nicola Ford joins us from Bancroft’s School in Essex as our inaugural Head of English. She brings with her a wealth of teaching experience in high-achieving day and boarding schools in the independent sector, plus four years’ experience as a Foreign Language Assistant and Teacher of English at Quirinus Gymnasium in Neuss, Germany.

Having studied English and German Literature at the University of Warwick, Nicola went on to complete a PGCE in English Methods and a Master’s Degree in Education at the University of Bristol. Her dissertation examined the reading habits and motivations of secondary school pupils. She has developed a strong pedagogical interest in Guy Claxton’s theory of ‘Building Learning Power’, and she has delivered lessons devised by King’s College London’s cognitive acceleration programme ‘Let’s Think in English’.

In the literary sphere Nicola’s interests are varied, but she is particularly fascinated by The Theatre of the Absurd movement and recently had her work on Samuel Beckett’s Waiting For Godot published by the English and Media Centre. In fact, she is excited by any texts (old and new) which challenge the literary conventions of their time and test the boundaries of our expectations as a society.

Ultimately, Nicola is a reflective practitioner who aims to establish fertile learning environments in which ideas about reading and writing are valued and explored in a collaborative way. It is her belief that classrooms should be places where risks are taken, that mistakes should be considered as both healthy and helpful, and that pupils should come to view being ‘stuck’ as an opportunity to try out previously unfamiliar approaches to thinking.

At Wetherby Pembridge, I am excited to inspire students to engage critically with the world around them through a dynamic and enriching History and Geography curriculum. By fostering curiosity and analytical thinking, I want to help students develop a deeper understanding of the past, make sense of the present, and prepare for the challenges of the future.

Alongside this I am committed to laying the foundations for strong pastoral structures, fostering student wellbeing, and creating meaningful educational experiences that empower young people to reach their full potential.

This means:
- Treating others as we would wish to be treated ourselves;
- Remaining polite and constructive in all of our interactions, even when we may disagree or feel frustrated;
